can you believe it? $1.65 Billion (with a B) for YouTube!

I'm kinda surprised that Google would pay that much for a company that is like 20 months old and has yet to turn a profit! Although it is ubiquitous, I can't see that kind of money for a startup. Maybe they see something I don't? Do you think YouTube is worth that much?

on the contrary. google has implemented its own video search function that is plain old garbage compared to youtube (IMO). no one can compete.

i happen to think that youtube kind of cut itself short, for the same reasons you used. very young company, and it's still on the rise and the best video site out there. i think that although it's established nowadays, give it some time and it's going to be worth more than 1.65 billion. as if 1.65 billion isn't enough...i do think that they can milk more out of it.

thank you.

rock.

While YouTube is cool and everything, I don't think it's worth all that. How long before we all get bored with it? What will be the next YouTube?

i don't think it's something that boredom kills, i think boredom is why it's so goddamn popular. there are so many videos of everything on there...it's almost like a library at your disposal. type in just about any band or musician, and there's gonna be something. sports, news, everything.

the more bored you are, the more time you have to waste finding all the crazy stuff they have on there. i sound like a big youtube fan, but honestly i don't spend a lot of time on there. i have just not been let down by my searches yet.

what I'm wondering is...how are they going to recoup the buy cost? Maybe advertising will pay for it...but that's a LOT of money.

A friend of mine pretty involved in the Silicon Valley scene says she was very surprised at the amount.
