Canada to US shipping question.

I bought a bass off of a fellow a fellow TB'er about two weeks ago , and when I check the tracking number all it says is that it was accepted at the post office on Jan. 12 and that's the last update. It was through Canada Post, 10 day expedited shipping, I just figured it would have done more than sit at the post office since then. It's no fault of the TB'er, so I'm not pointing fingers at him in any way, I was just wondering what the possible hold up could be. Thanks a bunch.

Have you ever seen an old episode of The Flinstones where there's a scene invloving the post office? They still use the same tracking system.

The number you get is not a tracking number. Canada post doesn't offer this service.
It's a confirmation number. It will be updated only when you will receive the bass.

I'll bet anything your bass is at customs. I shipped a Sans Amp pedal to Montreal from NY and it took THREE weeks.

that is incorrect, Canada post does have a tracking number system. Every shipping company has them now. Since you shipped it via Canada post, they have TERRIBLE delays when shipping across the border. You really should have not shipped using CP.

The hold up is them clearing it to pass to Canada. This will take awhile, don't hold your breath.

Yvon - Here is the tracking page on Canadapost.ca. https://em.canadapost.ca/emo/basicPin.do?language=en Shipping companies are required to have a tracking update system. This is how us shippers know where everything is and its status. I don't know where you heard CP doesn't offer this service, but that is terribly wrong.

Wasn't really my choice so...oh well, at least it's insured.

Hello FtF shipping usually takes 14+ days the hold up will be customs
by the time the tracking number catches up to the package from the time it was recieved at the post office it will be in customs and you won't recieve any tracking info. when it's there . When it clears customs in the US. you can track it on the USPS.
website if it was sent expedited parcel class if it was sent by a cheaper class
I don't know if there would be tracking on it .
I live in the middle of Canada and anything I have ever sent usually is in customs
in 4 days or less and gets to the buyer after it leaves customs in about the same amount of time . So depending on how backed up customs are or where it crosses the border thats where the system slows down .
I ship by Canada Post expedited Parcel insured for the full amount and that has worked great for me . I also don't think shipping by a higher rate class gets it there any faster
as I'm pretty sure it all goes in the same trucks and planes .

If you don't mind waiting a couple of days longer Canada Post and USPS. arethe way to ship as
UPS. FEDEX etc. will bill you for brokerage and handling fees.
As an example I bought a tube screamer pedal for $60.00 against my advice the seller
shipped it by fedex it came in 9 days but 2 months later fedex sends me a bill for $24.00
in brokerage fees and a letter saying my payment is late both envelopes were post marked the same date . When I get things shipped from the US. I use USPS.
when it arrives I pay the taxes and a $5.00 handling fee directly to the postman
at the door no hidden crap. The seller was not told about these fees by fedex when she shipped it when I told her she refunded me the shipping . There is free trade between Canada and the US.
so goods that are made in both countrys are exempt from duty so mark your packages made in the USA. or made in Canada.

Also never had a problem with Canada Post or USPS. and if it's stolen
its a federal offence and theives will be looking at serious jail time .

Hope this helps .B.
