Canadian Rock

I havent seen a thread on this, please forgive me if there is one already, but lets talk can-rock, and i dont mean stuff like brian adams. I just got home from seeing C'mon for what seems to be the 10th time or so, and these guys cannot be beaten, except maybe by the Sadies on a good night, but those are two different styles of bands. I know with a country so large its hard for a lot of west coast bands make it east and vice versa, so lets talk can rock and see if we can all discover a few new groups along the way.

I find the stuff that stays in Canada so much better than the stuff that makes it big south of the 49th.
I talk about this band alot but The Tea Party were simply amazing. I have seen them 5 times and out of the 50 plus rock concerts I have been too they rank in the top five of all time and number one for small venues. It's to bad they have disbanded.
I also really like
Matthew Good
Sloan ( Supposedly Dave Grohl's favorit Canadian Band)
Blue Rodeo
Great Big Sea
Hundred Mile House
Junkhouse/Tom Wilson
Hugh Dillon/The Headstones
5440

I hope to here more of Arcade Fire so I can decide weather I like them or not. I have heard one song and I really like it. I guesse a trip to HMV is in order so I can listen to that disk.

I really like Sons of Freedom from Vancouver. BNL, Blue Rodeo, the stuff I've heard from Matthew Good was cool. Singer from my old band Ten Seconds Over Tokyo has done some work with the guitar player from Junkhouse. Never cared for the Tea Party. I Mother Earth had some cool tunes, so did Glueleg.

Canadian bands are the darlings of the indie rock scene:

The Unicorns
Broken Social Scene
Wolf Parade
The Constantines (one of my faves as well)
The New Pornographers
Destroyer
All/most of Constellation Records' bands
The muchly overhyped AIDS Wolf

Plus The Band, NomeansNo and more straightedge hardcore bands than you can shake a stick at.

Ironically, Boards of Canada and Of Montreal are not Canadian.

The Guess Who, Triumph, RUSH!!!!

I have Our Lady Peace, Finger 11, Sam Roberts, Theory Of a Deadman and Great Big Sea playing all the time on my MD player.

Love Sloan and Blue Rodeo.

I've seen Finger 11 twice, Thornly and Tea Party at a local festival. We have in my home town.

Yep, this Canadian boy loves his Canadian music.

has anyone heard The Constantines/Unintended split cover album yet? I've heard 1 track of the Unintended doing Gordon Lightfoot, and its so great, they managed to make it really spacey and trippy, but i guess thats what happens when Rick White gets into the mix.

I thought of a whole bunch more Canadian Bands. Some I have no clue if they are still around or not I guesse I will check the net but some old bands I used to listen to
The Payollas (I know Bob Rock is a producer)
Chalk Circle
Northern Pikes
Grapes of Wrath
Aldo Nova
The Pursuit Of Happiness.
Ah does that bring back some memories
I jammed once with the guitarist of Haywire and played the bass players bass through his rig at our High School but I never really cared for their music but they were cool guys especially the guitarist.
I saw April Wine 2 years ago with BTO. BTO sounded better but I prefer April Wines music.

Yeah man, the power kept going out just as the songs started picking up. It was a sweet time. It's cool to see another guy from "Windsor Essex county"

I presume the Constellation stable includes Metric and Stars, right? I don't pay too much attention to BSS and its offshoots because You Forgot It in People did absolutely nothing for me.

One of the better-known Canadian hardcore bands is Propagandhi. Terrible, IMO, but the hardcore kids like them.

Devin Townsend (Strapping Young Lad, et al) is Canadian, isn't he?

"Let's go get some Blue and listen to the Hip, eh?"

There was a surprisingly large number of Canadians at Cornell.

Tarkake. I don't 'own' any of their material, but from what I've heard on TB, they're pretty good.
