This bums me out something hard.

His "Safe as Milk" album is a big reason I'm hooked on the fuzz bass.

That smarts... am I that old?

Actually, my dad dug him too. That's how I found out about him.

You should check him out mcsleazy. You can draw a straight line from Howlin Wolf-->Beefheart-->Sonic Youth & Tom Waits

"Safe as Milk" was so ahead of it's time. I've still got my, "May the Baby Jesus shut your mouth and open your mind," bumper sticker that came with the original LP. I know he's having a great jam session in heaven.

I like the Trout Mask... but it's not my favorite... problem with that record is that it's usually what everyone starts with when they hear about Beefheart... and it's a tough sell, so it turns a lot of people off. Spotlight Kid / Clear Spot might be a better place for Beefheart noobs.

Sad. Just yesterday I was thinking about how he sang Poofter's Froth Wyoming Plans Ahead and laughing to myself. RIP to one of the few true originals.

Thank god for youtube.

This video is 30 years old, and it still kicks dicks.

This is really bumming me out.

Couldn't agree more. I've been a fan since 1973. I knew he had MS. I couldn't be more bummed. Sweeteest music this side of heaven.

It's a valid observation. I think that's why so many like
'Milk' best.

RIP Captain

He was certainly one of a kind, and will be sadly missed.

Trout Mask Replica is the first Beefheart album I heard.

It's brilliant in pretty much every way. It is a sad day.
