Being an older guy, I don't really listen to today's music. There are some songs I really like, but for the most, nah. Anyway, my son was watching a rerun of that Diddy show on MTV where he was producing Day 26's album, and I was ranting about how everything sounded alike and unoriginal. Later on, Cribs came on and Bow Wow was one of the features, I don't hate him, I just never got him. Fast forward to last week, and I get a call asking will I be available to play an invite only industry gig. It pays VERY well and I'll be playing for 4 artists. I tell her that I'll do it, then I asked who the artist were. Bow Wow, Day 26, Sammie, and Rich Girl.

I'm not upset about it or anything, I just found it funny. However; my 16 year old son razzing me about it, is another thing!

| | | | I always say that poetic justice does reign but in your case, you will make some money, which is great, and maybe have an opportunity for some future work.
A few years ago, there was a local band that was just awful. They played old rock and country tunes from the 60s and I had heard them and cringed but stated how bad they were to my fellow bandmates and some friends. Wouldn't you know it. They needed a bass player for a few gigs and they called me to play the gigs. I needed some money and I did the gigs with a smile on my face, acted professionally, got paid, thanked them, and said I would help them out whenever they needed but they were really bad. |

You get to play a great paying gig with 4 celebrity groups that you can add to your resume. You have any idea how many bassists on TB would love to have your troubles?

However, the good news is that you'll probably find something to like in that music. Playing any kind of music can be a lot more fun than listening to it on the radio. It's a gig - so do your best.

Spoken like a true professional!!. I always remembered to "Smile and take the Money" - not forgetting to say "It was fun working with you, please give me a call if you need me again" on my way out.
A cautionary tale:
I was once in a situation where the bandleader was a total *****le and the other two guys in the band went out of their way to make sure he knew it - he was a drummer leading his first band and he hadn't a clue ....
I used to sit there on my stool and I must have looked like I was watching a tennis game as my head would turn this way (to the piano player) and that (to the drummer and sax player). However, I kept my mouth shut (even though I couldn't stand him myself either).
Anyway, for years afterwards I used to get calls from people looking for a Bass player starting with "I got your name from ....". So be careful who you badmouth, especiaslly if he's in charge !!!.
