| I wouldn't get too worried about being too precious about the "care and feeding" of the bass if you have a typical modern finish on it.
Most finishes now are either polyester or urethane, and both are pretty durable and will take a great deal of abuse/stupidity to harm.
Just wiping with a clean dry cloth regularly is typically fine, if you want to be a bit more thorough, you can use pretty much any standard-issue commercially available guitar polish, then wipe it off.
As for the fingerboard, I don't recommend lemon oil as it tends to dry wood out. Matter of fact, you want to be pretty sparing of any kind of oil on the fingerboard, it doesn't take much to start with, and you only need to do it maybe once or at most twice a year, and then only on unfinished 'boards (i.e. rosewood, ebony - maple is usually finished, as are some others). I used to use red oil, but now I just use polish, the same stuff I do the body with. Don't hurt a thing, IMO.
