Any TB'ers suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? How did you treat it? Did it affect your playing long term?

i work in the O.R. and we operate these on a weekly basis, it's a really quick operation.

don't know about the longterm effects on bassplaying, it might take some time to recover fully. There was someone on tb who underwent the surgery i remeber reading sometime, try doing a search.

Hye,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have to put people under general anasthetic or is it just a local?

Probably just a local anesthesia for Carpal Tunnel, but that's really only something for the most extreme cases of such things.

If you develop a pain that's obviously from playing then you should rest and not play for a few days and lets yourself heal.

Yes local, or intravenous regional block to be more exact!

i found this site which explains it quite thoroughly!

http://www.nysora.com/techniques/bier_block/

probably looks more complicated than it really is!

Yes. I suffer from CTS in both wrists and it has affected my playing. Reading Dr. Randall Kertz' book, The Bassist's Guide to Injury Management has helped a lot. I found a lot of the problem lay in my technique and I quickly changed that to a more fluid, more natural, and more efficient playing style which hasn't bothered me since.
