Carpal tunnel syndrom - what do i do now?

Sign in to disble this ad
so after 2years of many hours a day practicing ridiculous excercises
the unavoidable finally happened - carpal tunnel syndrom.
I was doing my normal practice routine and in the evening i felt some tinglings in my arms, i didn't suspect that anything was going to happen then, but i took that as a sign that my practice session was over for today.
I woke up the morning after and my arms didn't feel very well when i played so i decided to take a break for like 2days, now i'm sitting here 2months later and haven't been able to practice once.
My arms feels so bad a i can barely type on a keyboard, it's really disturbing.

So what do i do now? Go to a doctor? What can they do to help me?

also, i have this really embarrasing incident with sleeping pills wich ended with a blackout and cutmarks all over my right arm, i don't know if i want a doctor to see that.

ummm, i dont think tingling is part of Carpel tunnel, I think its just sore wrist honestly..

I may be wrong, cuz it could be something much worse.

Unless you had a really bad technique not many players have problems after playing only two years.

Or, you have had it under stress previously either from Work or play, or sleeping with fat chicks (Counts as work / play)

(im a bad person, i know)

Go to a doctor. You think the doctor has never seen cut marks on someone's arm? I guarantee you they've seen 100x worse.

He's right... you want to know a bad feeling ? Try stopping by the Detox clinic because your friend is coked out of his mind, thats a place you dont want to be... you would think all the people that work there would be used to it, but no... they stare at you like Your scum, and you should know better.

Specifically if you drag a good looking girl there.

I'm also curious about cutmarks effect on your nerves and crap, i recieved my carpal tunnel syndrom shortly after the incident, i don't think 15 not very deep i suppose cut marks is enough to cause a big disorder such as carpal tunnel syndrom though..

I seriously doubt that cuts will bring on carpal tunnel, even if they're serious cuts. Not related. You really need to read up on it, ( http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/c...el.htm#What_is ) and make sure you know what you're dealing with.

SEE THE DOCTOR.

It could be other things than C. T. I had similar symptoms of the numbness and found out later that I had a herniated disc in my neck. It pinched the nerves serving the left arm and made it numb and also lost strength in the upper arm, too. Sometimes anti-inflamatories and therapy will get the swelling of the disc down and take care of it, but I had to eventually have surgery.

Looking at your bio, you're a little young for arthritis, but that's what I'm experiencing now and the pain symptoms in the hand and wrist are very similar, although not as severe. (...yet...)

SEE THE DOCTOR.

Good luck.

It sounds nothing like CTS IMHO.

I had ulna problems and two visits to a decent Chiropractor has totally sorted it.

Good luck with whatever course you choose to follow.

Actually, i have had alot of pain in my neck and back.
And when i read on that page you posted, it said "trouble forming a
fist, decreased strength etc.." i don't have those symptoms at all.

I have this burning feeling going on in my forearm, and tinglings, not in my hands but just in my forearm.

I'm guessing that you've got a pinched nerve somewhere and you need to see the doc so they can determine what's going on. Don't let it go very long; it's only going to get worse and may become permanent if you don't get it taken care of.
Don't mean to scare; just being devil's advocate.

Arthritis can be acquired at a young age. I'm 17 years old and I have some form of it. Mostly felt in my hips and wrists. But it comes and goes and is usually better in the summer.

I hate the summer.

Now I hate the winter too.

seemingly unrelated question here. do you lift weights at all ? I had a prolem with "shin splints" in my forearms when I 1st started lifting. I had to ice my forearms down daily to stop the pain & burning. Turns out I was wraping my thumb around the bar and squeezing the bar so hard while lifting, that I was over stretching (pulling/minor tearing) my forearm muscles. Switching to a faux, or thumbs under the bar, grip solved my problems. Along with lots of ice after each workout. It subsided after a few weeks with the new grip.

touche'. I guess I'm a little caught up in the stereo-type arthritis candidates.

Mine's in my thumb joints which radiate up into the wrists and make it painful to grip things at times.

I guess there's always the Spring and Fall.....

See a doctor, see a doctor, SEE A DOCTOR.

After two months of pain you haven't seen one yet?

I feel like an idiot now, i was so sure it was an injury caused by bassplaying and that the only way to get rid of it was to not practice.
It has now got worse and this was the first night my arms hurt when i tried to sleep, now they hurt all the time.
Told my mum to get a doctor, but it takes along time i suppose.. last time i first had to wait like a week to do a bloodtest and then they would send the test to a nervcentral and stuff which takes another couple of weeks, then ittakes a few more weeks from that to get the results from the tests...
