Case for odd shaped bass.

Can anyone help me out with how to find/make a case for odd shaped guitars. I've got a Ibanez X Series and I can't find a case anywhere that'll fit it. Are there sights that specialize in building custom spec cases, or show how to make your own case? Thanks for any help!

I thought he was going to make a case for (e.g., justify) odd shaped basses.

I had to find a case for a huge Warmoth Explorer bass, which was not easy. The best I could say is to look for some production basses that might somewhat resemble your bass. Then email the manufacturers with your bass' measurements to see if their production cases would fit your bass. I found that the Epiphone explorer case fit mine perfectly fortunately. You might get lucky. If all else fails, go to the best stocked bass shop you can with your bass and try out as many cases as they have and see what fits. I've found a couple cases this way too for my unusual shaped LeCompte's. In the mean time it might be easier to fins a gig bag that would fit it, so at least you'd have it in something until you are able to find a good case.

I have an Alembic Exploiter. Nothing fits it except its own case, which I was quoted at $600 for. It's Explorer shaped, but HUGE. Besides that, all 24 frets are clear of the neck joint, unlike the Explorer, making the bass longer as well.

I bought an 88 key keyboard case, and a huge sheet of insulation foam - the kind several inches thick. Traced the bass on the foam, then cut it out with a bandsaw. I removed the padding from the case, and put down a layer of thinner foam insulation that I had laying around. Then put the thick foam down, gluing the whole mess together as I went. Shaped a neck support out of styrofoam. Covered the whole thing in velvet. I put another piece of thick velvet covered foam in the top part of the case. It took some work, but the case was on sale for $129 so I saved myself a bundle. It's too freaking huge to fit in most small cars, however. Room enough inside for whatever accessories, if I ever get around to finishing it and adding a compartment for them.
