Cats won't stop chewing speaker and monitor cables

Sign in to disble this ad
not sure if this is the right spot or not, but my psycho cats will NOT stop chewing on my cables that connect my amp head to my cabinets, the cables that connect my DAW together, i.e., the speaker cables, cables to and from the sub, etc. et al...yes, they all can be replaced every week by swapping them out at my GC, but this is really getting to be a pain...sometimes, i really wish they would bite through a plugged in POWER cord just kidding...anyone have any suggestions? water bottles and scratching posts do NOT work...shutting the door right? well, my kids sometimes open the door to my room, and the cats get in and the cables are the first thing they go for...nutty cats

theres some sort of lemon stuff you can spray on furniture to keep them off of it.

or slap the cats stupid when you catch them doing it.

Cars don't like lemon. Try coating your cables etc. with lemon oil or spraying it with lemon scented air spray. (Someone once tried to market a cat litter scented with lemon - can we say FAIL?)

That will still last the cables longer than chewing them.

But I don't think cats do that.

Anyway... my suggestion isn't meant to be serious.

(Sorry, I just couldn't resist.)

I'd rig something up so they chew through a cable with non-lethal voltage on it.
That'll learn them.

You can also put the split-loom stuff used on car wiring(under the hood) and some geek PC installs. Found at electronics stores or car parts stores.

Out here in boonieland, that behavior gets an indoor cat changed into an outdoor cat.

Double sided tape.
It worked in getting them to stop clawing the couch.

I'd use some old fashioned cayenne, just don't make sure the kids get at it. If it gets on their hands and they rub their eyes, you have a problem. Same with the lemon, actually.

well, i do suck i don't mind coiling up my bass cables, but then there is the DVD player, all of the stuff behind my computer, you name it...cayenne might work, or those cable cover things...cayenne seems to be the least stinky and sticky solution...who likes stinky sticky cables?
