Challenging bass and guitar songs?

Sign in to disble this ad
Me and my friend are trying to find a song that is slightly challenging, so far we can find one of the other, either challenging bass or guitar, any recomendations for something that will make us both work? We listen to alot of thrash metal and folk metal. Any help would be appreciated.

And I plan on getting more active on the forums, but for now I'm a lurker....

It's not a thrash metal tune, but YYZ by Rush would be a good exercise. It sounds like a cliche but that's probably one of rock'n'roll's equivelant of a jazz standard such as giant steps. eg every muso playing the tune will get owned.

puddin tame, I checked it out, my friend would not go for that, he's mainly into thrash, he likes the faster stuff, our problem is finding a song that does not have a difficult solo, cause thats whats causing us the most problems.

Try this one. In case you decide to put it on your list, notice that both guitar and bass are tuned down one half step on the recording.

He won't go for that either, he is very narrow minded when it comes to music, the bands he likes off the top of my head is Kalmah, Destroyer 666, Skeletal Witch, Metallica, Kreator and Six Feet Under, just to give an idea. This is also the reason we are having such problems finding a song. The plan is I'm leaving state for a couple months, when I get back we will have gotten the chosen song down and will play it together, it has to be challenging on both sides so we can can measure how good we got.

It sounds like either the guitartist needs to expand what genres and bands he is willing to listen to or play, or that the band needs another guitarist who isn't so closed minded.

I agree that he needs to expand, but we are not a band, just me and him and we want to jam together when I get back, so we are looking for the one song. So far Master of Puppets is looking the best, besides the guitar solo. It would be great if he would at least consider bands out of the few genres he chose though, but I've known him half my life and know he won't.

His bass player will keep you busy and you won't lose your crowd.

We found our song, Black Dog by Led Zepplin.

But when I said folk metal I was referring mainly to Korpiklaani, If I had a hammer means nothing to me.
