Chaning Bass Necks

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey

I am currently using a Peavey Fury VI 6 string electric bass. The neck is a bolt on, and I was wondering if it is possible to spend some money and buy a great fretless 6 string neck and bolt it on to the bass. I could alternate between the two, no?

Can it be done?

Thanks,

Miles

Maybe, if you find/have made one that fits. Better to buy a second bass, since swapping them wouldn't be something you could do frequently.

You could probably do it if you find the right neck to fit in there. I wouldn't plan on alternating the necks regularly, as it would probably be a major hassle, and rather impractical.

every time you switched, you would need to do a setup....

Yeah, you would have to undo all the strings, unscrew the neck, screw the other on, put the strings back on, then wait for the neck to settle in. After a while you'd be able to set it up. At least you wouldn't have to do it again until the next time you wanted to switch.

I wouldn't do it unless you want to switch over to fretless entirely (although I don't know why you wouldn't want to). Even then, a new bass would probably be better.
