I'm currently drawing plans for a custom bass case in my drafting class at school (I'm a Senior). I've been looking for foam to fill it but it's all very expensive. ($202.40 for a 3" x 54" x 72" sheet ) Does anyone know where I can get some for cheaper than this?? Also any sites where I can get hardware would also be cool.
I can't remember if i got my hardware from Antique Electronic Supply or Parts Express. For foam, probably not as nice as you want, but I used a big sheet of foam insulation from Home Depot. Lined the case with a thinner sheet, then traced the bass on a thick sheet (3 inches?) and cut with scroll saw. Shaped neck rest insert piece by hand. Glued/tacked velvet to the whole thing. I'm not saying I'd want to turn the result in for credit, but it worked and doesn't look too bad.
