Cheap guitar for messing with?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I'm thinking about getting a cheap guitar just for messing with. I have a Fender MIM telecaster but my brother is borrowing it in London at the moment and I want something to mess with until I get it back.

I was thinking of a Squier but that's because I know very little about guitars and I don't really know what I'm looking for. I have heard some good things about Yamahas and Ibanezes but I don't know...and I really do want CHEAP here (or at least inexpensive). I'd happily buy second hand if I could check it out first.

Thanks,

Steve

I don't know about over in England, but from Musicyo.com
you could get one for well under $100 US.

I don't know about international shipping...

Good luck.

It depends on your idea of cheap.
I am seriously toying with getting the Squire Tele Custom II with the Duncan designed P90's from here
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/...stom-p90/11623
They do one with twin humbuckers and one with P90's, the P90 one has been getting some very good reviews (check out Harmony Central. It depends on your style of music wether to have humbuckers or P90's but the reviews haven't been as favourable on the humbucker version.
I've only tried it without it plugged in but it had a good resonance and sustain to it which is a good sign and played nicely.
Personally I think that's a very good deal.

Give me a price range. I play guitar also. Jackson Imports get down there for example. A Squire Strat is totally different than a MIM Strat. Cheaper electronics and wood, and a 3 position switch instead of 5 for example. If your already used to MIM, I don't know if you'll like a Squire.

If SX basses are good buys for the money, it stands to reason their guitars would be just as good and for under a bill to boot.

How about this SX SRV model?

I have a Yamaha Pacifica, and it's a good guitar for the money. Very Strat-sounding.

Same here. I got a 112J though, for the same price of a 012, so why not.

+1 on the Yamaha Pacifica. Even the less expensive models are good sounding and good playing.

Thanks for the tips guys, the pacifica is looking like a good bet. I'll have to see what sort of prices they have them for around here.

Gretsch Electromatic Projet

Solid heft
great sustain for a Chinese Gretsch
not as loud as my Squier Strat for some reason but sounds great for blues
