Two things that work.
1. Pants belt turned into strap. You need to get them from leather place BEFORE they are turned into a belt where they are quite long and have all tooling done (pick a cool design) but holes and buckle not installed.
2. Also at leather hobby places, are blank guitar adjustable guitar straps. They are all cut out and ready to go (idea is you are supposed to do the tooling) but are unstained leather so you'll need a bottle of leather dye to turn them black or brown or red or whatever color you choose. (And if you feel ambitious you actually CAN add your own most cool tooling design) (These are very similar if not identical to the adjustable straps shown at the Levis site)
Since I like to have a strap for each bass I've got a lot of both of these. However, let me say that the most comfortable strap for a heavy bass is the padded cloth Carvin strap. Cheap. Only downside is huge white "CARVIN" on it.
