Check IDs for Denatured Alcohol?

Sign in to disble this ad
Stupid question, I know, but I'm probably going to pick some up next time I'm on my way to work...Anybody know if stores check IDs for this, even though its undrinkable?

Nope. It's an uncontrolled substance despite it's alcohol content.

It depends on the store's policy. I used to get carded for lead substitute/additive (for gasoline) at Wal-Mart.

It certainly is drinkable...however, you'll do yourself over if you do drink it.

Alright, thanks.

Although apparently when asking my friend about this, he said that Wal-Mart ID'd him...for spraypaint.

Oh well, we'll just have to see.

And I've done a brief search on this before, but out of cuiosity, what effect would the Alcohol have upon Elixirs?

If the search function is up, there is a ton of info in TB's own Strings forum. However, my solution is this: use flats and 1) don't worry about changing strings for years and 2) get better tone.

I wouldn't be surprised if you did get carded, especially in this day and age. I could easily see the store being paranoid about people huffing anything from the solvent/paint/chemical section, or using it to make meth.

There's a hillarious story/epic somewhere on customerssuck.com about a kid who came into a store and drank malt vinegar (at least that's what I recall it being). It wouldn't surprise me if stores were IDing for stuff like that nowadays.

Honestly, I'm not even sure anymore...

They are worried about kids sniffing it. I don't think there's any way to get high with denatured alcohol. If there is, someone would have thought of it by now.

It depends on where you live. I get ID'd buying videogames, cigarettes, and occasionally renting movies (the non-porno variety). But never anything that comes from the hardware, sporting goods, or pharmacy section.
