chicago for blues? or Texas

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking of going, with my wife, to Chicago to check out some blues. Any one know if this is a good idea? Austin Texas is on the list too. I'm reading "I am the Blues. The Wilie Dixon story" and now I am interested in seeing the birth place of Chicago Blues. Any body have input?

thanks]

Blues is like BBQ. Different regions have different methods of cooking and flavors, but it's all good!

Chicago.

You don't ask, "Should I go to San Fransisco to get thin crust pizza", do you? You know you're supposed to go to NOO YAWK, baby!

For southern blues, then it's Texas. For straight up, original, broken hearted blues, Windy City all the way.

blues per square mile

I think in terms of blues history and culture, chicago wins out when you consider the size of texas vs chicago. Some great blues has come from both places. But for a trip, you'll get more blues with less effort in chicago. There are a lot of wide open spaces in texas. Not all texas blues is in austin, but in chi town you get the whole enchilada.
Just a perspective.

If you go Chicago, there's several TB'ers [myself included] that are in the area. I'm not nearly as hip to the blues places as i am the jazz though.

Get thee to N'awlins*, in my opinion. Nobody does it like the Delta.

*when I say N'awlins, I really mean some run-down, dusty juke joint a few miles out of town, where the whiskey flows like wine and the law don't mind

Chicago and Memphis....Great music (blues) in both cities!!

Memphis has Beale Street...Chicago has several great places thoughout the city to get your blues fix!

PS - see if you can visit Lakland while you are here...even if you are not a Lakland lover.....great place to visit either way.

Also - the science museum, and the art museum, and Navy Pier.....need more sugestions? Chicago is full of good places to visit!!!!
