This is one of my favorite songs, and definitely my favorite Christmas song. It's "Christmas in the Trenches", written by John McCutcheon.
Folk in A (that's Ted Kastellic and I) recorded a version the other night. Simple instrumentation (guitar, fretless bass, harmonica and vocals) and, I think, a nice presentation of this wonderful story.
You can stream it, or download it for free. Go to

It tells the story of the Christmas Truce of 1914, when peace broke out spontaneously between British and German solidiers on the front lines in France on Christmas Eve. It's a story that bears telling, and I think, a song that bears hearing.
Wishing you peace, health, joy, and music this holiday season.
