Collective Soul's "Heavy"

The band has decided to do this tune. I can't pick out the bass part on the kickoff and the section before the guitar solo. Can you help a brother out?

It sounds like it mimics the guitar. BTW, I never liked Collective Soul, but this is a great song.

I've downloaded a couple of live version from youtube, but can't really tell anything.

Everything's so muddled by effects. I've listened to it a couple of times and I think it does mimic the guitar.

Edit: It's the same line as the opening bass line that comes in in the third bar of the song.

Doesn't sound like it mimics the guitard to me, sounds like a pedal tone line that has a whole step pick up, similar to Victor Damiani's line on Cake's "The Distance".

You're right that it's not mimicing the guitar, but the bass line prior to the solo is the opening bass line to the song.

That's what I thought I heard. We are 3 piece, so I will have to be really have to nail that groove down.

We cover this one and you are correct, playing the guitar riff does not sound right.
I play a real quick repeating Eb to E hammer-on with a thick tone dialed in. Get the feel of it and it sounds good.
If you come up with something better let me know !

You are correct sir ! I meant Eb to F.

Note to those playing along to the song, the Collective Soul recording is downtuned 1/2 step.
