College Bass logistical suggestions

Dear Talkbass,

I read much more than I post here, but I am leaving for college soon and I have two categories of questions. one here, and one in the amps forum to ask about amps that would fit my needs.

Stolen Bass Material, Do any of you have experience with not getting stuff stolen, if you have, then what could i do to avoid it. Security might be difficult all time.

Would a case with a decent lock actually do anything, since the could take the case, and what do I need to do to say track down a bass.

This applies to all bass related things amps etc. would it be possible to chain things to the ground/ bed etc.

A little more info, I will be rooming on an honors dorm at a large state university. With a kid I sit next to in calculus.

im in the same situation. I`ve heard of people chaining and locking their bass and amp to a leg of their bed with the bass shut in a case. I`m trying to figure the same thing out.... if there are other musicians in your area, keep your accessories (strings, tuners) outta sight.
