How do the playing test requirements work? Im in the southern Ontario area by the way. I understand that many schools are different so ill accerpt as much info as possible |
I studied at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Az, and the only time I touched a DB in school was to sub as the big band's bassist. I butted heads over this with a teacher at ASU where I took some classes, but plenty of universities and colleges want electric players these days.
Having said that, go out and learn to play DB anyway. I've made more money playing DB in the last year than I did playing electric the last 5.
Most colleges I looked at wanted me to have a
bare minimum of theory, music reading skills, and playing chops. You're there to learn, and if you could walk into a place and blow through Giant Steps at 210 bpm, you probably wouldn't need to attend. As long as your check clears, wherever you go, they'll most likely let you in
