Comfort Strapp size?

Sign in to disble this ad
You would think that after playing for awhile now that I would know how to buy a strap! I want a "Comfort Strapp" but with 3 sizes I'm not sure what to get. I don't want to go through the hassle of sending it back to get another size. Anyway, I'm 6 ft. and I like to wear my basses kinda high. Anyone know what size to get? Thanking you in advance!

In all honesty, they all would work. I have a "long", and it can be tightened pretty high. I play my bass standing at the same level as sitting.

So, if you play high a medium or short would be your best bet, but if you find one used or something any of them should work.

I just checked Amazon.com:

Short 33" - 37"
Long 38" - 45"
Extra Long 42" - 54"

As a point of reference only, I'm 5'10" 172 pounds and a 42" strap places my basses with the nut at eye level, and the upper horn at mid sternum; a height that enables me to easily position my hands anywhere between the bridge and the nut without straining or risking a repetitive stress injury.

Take any adjustable strap you have now, set it where you want your bass to be, and measure it from eye-hole to eye-hole. Then use the measurements in Jazzdogg's post to select the one that's going to work for you.

Simple and easy...

I'd probably go with the "Long". I have about 6 of them. I'm also 6'. I wear my basses right around waist level. At their longest length, the "Long" Comfort Strapps put my basses exactly where I like them.

Since you said you tend to like them a bit on the high side, I think you'd be able to adjust the "Long" so that it would sit where you want it.

I had an "Extra Long" that I used on a Jack Casady (because of the placement of the neck-side strap button). But I found it a bit too long on my Fender basses. And I think the "Short" would be TOO short. Hope this helps some.

Don't get a long; at it's shortest length the long Comfort Strapp holds a typical bass just under the level where I (also a 6' guy) would even begin to think of it as starting to get close to where folks might consider it worn slightly higher than slightly low.
In other words, not.

If you really wear your basses "kinda high" -- like Mark King/Jeff Berlin/Stephan Lessard kinda high -- just get a short.
