complicated riffs

Have you ever made a riff so complicated you couldn't play it unless you played it slow or it took you an extensive amount of non stop practice to finally master it?

I've written bass riffs that have been next to impossible to play while singing, and a few other rather difficult basslines. Then I realized I needed to simplify my basslines.

I've written stuff that I couldn't initially play, but with a little practice I was able to get it right and in time. I don't write too far beyond my abilities, but my compositional skills are lacking.

my band tends to do that. we write a song thats just too ridiculous to pull off live.. so then its a matter of trying to get it together.

i can see it now..

"why dont we change time signature every 4 measures using only prime numbers!"

I wrote a song where the time signature vary based on the fibonacci sequence. We've never even attempted doing it live.

I wrote a bassline or two that tended to take over the song, and I usually had to practice it over and over to get it down for live shows.

Our keyboardist hated me.

Almost every guitar riff I have ever written. I write way beyond my ability on guitar, but I am getting better, but that only means that the guitar parts are more complicated then they were 3 months ago.
