Composing Thick Bass Lines

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not quite sure where as to put this thread but I figure if it's in the wrong place someone will move it...

I've been playing in a alt metal/funk band and and ussually I write a bass line and then every thing is built on top of me, I ussually write bass lines that appease both sides of the spectrum but I was wondering about different kinds of harmonys and progressions that might make a bass line sound fatter or better harmonicly, or if you can't tell me but you can tell me of know of bands that sound similar to what I'm talking about.

this may be a wierd question, I guess I'm mainly asking what have been some things that have added to you bass "bag of tricks" so to speak...or what has been most valueable (other than the raw basics)

thx to all that reply

Throw some chords in there. Play your usual lines and then create a heavy chord progression to throw in the mix. A chord that involves at least three strings. Preferably a minor involving some minor chords. Just my opinion...

I play around with some 2 string chords mostly 5 chords; any more than that might sounds too muddy...but I'll give it a go.
thx
