Which concert do I go to? Aerosmith or NIN?

So, being a thick-minded foolish teen, I went against my better judgement and bought Aerosmith lawn tickets before they were available to public. (Got them on stubHub). I payed 60 for each ticket (I know, stupid) and bought 4 total. Now, there is a lawn four pack for 100 dollars. Well great! The concert is August 28th, and is at the First Midwest Bank Ampetheatre in Tinley Park Illinois.

Just got into Nine Inch Nails recently, and was really intrigued by Trent Reznor's industrial music. So my cousin who is obsessed with them got tickets for me and him and his friends to go see NIN at the Aragon Ballroom. The ticket is 60 bucks. Guess what day the concert is. August 28th.

So now I don't know what to do. I like Aerosmith over NIN by far, but the biggest issue is the venue. I will be on the lawn barely able to Aerosmith, while the classic Aragon Ballroom puts you right in the action. To be honest, there is a drive to sell the Aero ticks for a loss, but that's a very big loss nontheless. I've also told my friend he could accompany me to Aerosmith, but it's not like they are his favorite band so I wouldn't expect him to be too mad.
What would you do in this situation?

If you haven't seen an Aerosmith show, go. Not only one of the great acts of rock, but how often in the future will the opportunity present itself?

And then you still have 25 years to catch NIN before they have the experience that Aerosmith has.

Trent is going to stop touring here in the near future, after the next set of shows, so it's actually more likely that you'd be able to catch Aerosmith again before you'd see NIN again.

I vote for NIN.

Tough one. Last year I had to decide between Robert Plant, or Beck. I won't say which I chose, but the point is, it's a win either way, and a lose either way. I know, no help, but I do feel your pain.

Tough call!

I've seen NIN. It will be a good show.

But if you're a big Aerosmith fan go to that one. Those guys aren't getting any younger...

While Trent is planning a break soon I don't see him ever quitting music.

NIN would definitely be the more intense show... Trent has world-class players with him and that band is a well-oiled machine. They don't mess around and neither do their fans. Keep your head on a swivel if you go to that one, and earplugs wouldn't hurt either. Especially in a smaller room like the Aragon.

Aerosmith should just be a flat-out good time. Less about emo/angst and more about just having fun. I'm gonna guess, lots more hot chicks there too than at NIN if that influences your decision at all. I'd steer you to that show, but then I'm not much for industrial so that's just my tastes.

One thing to consider about the Aerosmith show... pending Tom Hamilton's health he may not be with the band at the show you're considering. Last I heard there had been some issues with his throat cancer and they were going to finish out the tour with a sub on bass.

I've seen them all and would rate the live shows:

ZZ Top > Aerosmith > NIN

Which isn't to say I didn't like NIN (their live show is still in my top-20) but if it's ZZ + Aerosmith, it's no contest.

IMO you should go see NIN. This current tour is "barebones", no big light/laser show, no huge stages, just four guys rockin' their asses off. If nothing else, go to see JMJ. I am sure glad that I did.

NIN. I'm going to both shows at the Aragon, should be awesome. I saw them at a small theater a few years ago in Atlanta, anf the experience was beyond belief. Everyone who got tickets for these last shows REALLY wants to be there, and the energy in a show like that is amazing. Everyone sings along, and people don't talk through the quiet parts. My wife and I are flying from Florida for those gigs, and there are people coming from as far away as Europe and Russia for these. Check the forums on NIN.com and see what I mean. Reznor's fans are VERY dedicated.
