Is it considered a cover band when...

I just watched soundstage on PBS. It was Foreigner.
Only the guitar player and the drummer where from the original band.
Signer, rhythm guitar, keyboard player and the bass player where new.

I felt like I was watching a good cover band.

What do you think?

That drummer isn't old enough to be the original drummer.

Here's a pic of him with his dad's old band:

So Foreigner has one original member.Sounds like a tribute band to me!

There are plenty of bands who still play without their full original lineup. If theyre actually a part of the band its just a new lineup, I guess. Sublime plays with a guy called Rome on guitar and vocals now. Though they did have to start calling themselves Sublime with Rome for legal reasons.

The remaining original member is Mick Jones, founder and co-writer of much of the material.

It is not uncommon for a founding member or two to find replacement players and perform.

I feel the same way watching a lot of the bands from that era that are still out there playing. Heart, Kansas and Lynard Skynard being three that immediately come to mind.
