Contest: Top 3 drunk-idiot-at-party basslines

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to get back into bass after 21 years, and I was chatting and trading memories with an old friend recently about our high-school garage band. One thing that got us laughing was the fact that my old bass (a Yamaha) was like a magnet for idiots at parties - absolutely irresistible to anyone who had had more than 6 beers (and, as a rule, people who had never picked up a bass or a guitar in their life). We made a list of what we think are the top 3 drunk-idiot-at-party basslines. I think I'm going to win my own contest, but I'm prepared to admit defeat if anyone can beat this:

1. Smoke on the Water
2. Sunshine of your Love
3. Louie Louie (or Wild Thing, etc.)

Another One Bites the Dust is a good one. Well done.

Seven Nation Army and Smells Like Teen Spirit will probably eventually replace Louie Louie. It's a different generation of drunk idiots, now.

Fleetwood Mac's 'The Chain', more commonly known in the UK as the formula 1 music of old.

BTW, if stranger at a gig asks if he can have a go on my bass, I reply by asking if I can take his car for a spin, and explain that I don't know how to drive. Or if I'm feeling suicidal, ask if I can take his girlfriend for a spin (although I do know how to do that)

Another Ones Bites the Dust seems to be the most popular choice, but there are some deceptively tricky parts to it. No drunk ever makes it past the first 3 notes, anyway!

that's cool because I can't play them either, but still. Drunk people with instruments are always comedy gold.
