Using concert pitch (A = 440), the chords are B - F# - Ab min - E (1 - 5 - 2 - 4)

Sorry guys, I was being a bit too precise with my previous post. CloClo is actually right about the pattern; we have different pitches because his guitar is likely tuned down a half step where mine is tuned standard 440. Both chord sets use the same 1 - 5 - 2 - 4 pattern.

You are able to play the chords CloClo provided using all open positions by tuning your guitar down a half step, where the chords I found require at least partial barring.

Sorry if I caused a mixup.

OK, depending on how you choose to tune your bass, the simplest of basslines would be to play the same root notes as the chords. If you are tuned standard, use the notes from post #3 as a starting point. If you choose to tune down a half step, use the notes from post #2 for starters. This will work fine for a simple chord progression as in the clip you linked.

As you learn music theory, you will discover that you can use optional bass notes instead of simply following the root of the chord. I hope this helps.

Merry Christmas!!

Re: this particular chord progression: get used to it, you may encounter it more often in other songs than you think.

The progression is 1-5-6-4. And in the key of B, that's a G# minor, not an Ab minor.

Thanks Febs, you are exactly right. I sure wish I could blame those blatant errors on typos.
