I everyone. I've been playing bass in original bands since started, so doing covers is a newish thought for me. Can anyone suggest some songs that I should know as a sort list of standards?

Depends on what genre you want to play. A good start is look at other cover bands lists to see what they are playing. Agent websites (like PPES over here) are good for that. You can download sample lists and set lists from working artists. They are also excellent resources for potential fill ins looking to cover whats being played 'just in case' or guys like me who don't learn well "without a purpose" to do so.

It won't take long to spot the standards of your chosen genre that are still being played by popular working cover bands.

Hope that helps.

What kind of music do you play? Who are your influences? Who does your band sound like?

Could go in any direction. There are the old groaner standards - Mustang Sally, Sweet Caroline, Sweet Home Alabama, Jenny/867-5309, etc. There's the classic rock heavier set, like Livin' on a Prayer, Summer of 69, You Shook Me All Night Long. There's the classic funk stuff like Brick House, Low Rider, Play that Funky Music. For more recent alt-rock, maybe Kryptonite, Paralyzer, stuff like that.

Google the DJs' list of the top 200 requests for last year and you can get a pretty good idea of what crowds gravitate to.

I play a lot of church music and I currently play in a band that would probably be best described as rock leaning towards classic rock. Other bands I've played in were more the Muse, Radiohead, U2 vein. So, I'm sort of al over the place
