I met him a few times while I was living in Brooklyn. He's a great guy. Very modest.

I didn't realize he had so much to do with the history of bass. I'm glad I watched all these. It sucks that his story got distorted by the ignorant knowitalls that wrote those books and articles.

Very enjoyable set of videos

However, I knew that Carl's basses were mega expensive, but - Part 8 - $10,000 for a bridge?????

I love the story of how John Slog mis-reported all the tonal nonsense about the Rainbow Bass in his BP article and how BP never acknowledged the corrections Carl sent them.

It makes me wonder how much else was just plain wrong in other articles.

Awesome videos! Thanks so much for posting. I'm on the 4th one now, and I'll admit, my opinion and perception of CT has changed somewhat!

I'm pretty sure he was joking. When I bought a guitar from Carl a few years ago, it had one of those bridges. If my memory serves, he said it was an extra $2000 or $2500. The bridge is a beautiful and functional piece of art. As for Carls' basses being mega-expensive, I still think he undercharges compared with some other builders out there. It sounds crazy to say that when a bass costs $4,500 - but as most players know, you can spend ALOT more on a four string bass.
