Current top 5 songs to get the crowd moving?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, I'm sure the topic of set lists has come up more than once. But I am curious as to what the current top 5 songs you feel really get the crowd moving. I just joined an established band that lost their bass player and we are doing classic rock, current rock/alternative and some dance music. We are trying to play the songs that are the most fun to play, yet also get the people moving. Of course the top songs change as new music comes out and old songs are rediscovered. So my question to you is, what would you say are the top five songs your band plays that gets people moving and dancing?

Brown Eyed Girl
YMCA
Stayin Alive
Dancin Queen
Mustang Sally

I don't play this stuff - it is kind of the cover stuff

Whatever you do.. be critical of the songs you're playing.. there is some stuff that's purist based (Beatles etc).. if you butcher stuff with cult followings it does not help.,

These are good for audiences in the UK, probably be different in the US:

Dancing Queen
I Will Survive
I don't feel like dancing - Scissor Sistors
Valerie - Amy Winehouse
We are Family

Others that work really well...

Disco Inferno
+1 Staying Alive
+1 Brown Eyed Girl
Walking on Sunshine
Suspicious Minds
Don't You Want Me Baby
Take On Me
Tainted Love

It really depends on the audience. I don't know many country, rock fans who will like being treated to Dancing Queen...

If your bag is classic rock and alt stuff, sneaking any Elvis or any of the Eliminator era ZZ Top will get booties moving (just cut the solos to one a song).

"You Give Love a Bad Name"
"So What" yes, that song by Pink
"You Shook Me All Night Long"
"Sweet Child 'o' Mine"
"Fight for Your Right...To Party"

Those work for us and are currently part of our set lists.

It's weird what will get a crowd going. Once a song falls out of favor, we toss it & move on.

Nickelback.

They don't sell millions of records and have countless number one's and sell out every venue they play without someone liking them.

Every bar band I've seen that played them the crowd went nuts.
