Custom Made Straps, Please !

Sign in to disble this ad
I have searched repeatedly for threads on straps on this forum, called stores, tried to email strap manufacturers to no avail; please tell me of any places that will RESPOND to emails and may make some straps to my specifications, my very simple specifications.

No one makes/has what I need!

What are you looking for in a strap?

If it's leather you probably have quite a few people you can go to.

Moody Leather was the first I thought of, but I didn't see anything about making a one time custom strap.

google found this: http://www.leathersmithdesigns.com/
Results: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...custom+leather

Again, if it's leather, I would imagine you could contact a local leather-smith and get something made. You would probably just have to give them a guitar strap for an example, and then explain what you want.

What Chunk-O-Funk said. That's what I did over 15 years ago. My strap is the only bit of "gear" I've owned that long. Very simple design. I took him a regular nylon strap and said "Make me one this length out of thick leather 3 1/2" to 4" wide...and black. One hole in each end and kind of round off the ends." It turned out perfect. I've used it every show since. He was just a local guy who does leather work. He makes wallets and belts and stuff like that. If I get a chance I will put up pics later. I have a new baby girl so I may not get a chance! (I'm sure you parents understand.)

Thank You very much for the responses.
What I actually need is a 3" strap, made of nylon/seat belt material, or something that won't absorb sweat, ideally anyway. I also need it to go fairly short, and have some sort of shoulder pad that will stay in place.

The comfort based/neoprene straps I have stretch too much, so need something that stays in place when bouncing around. It seems like a simple thing, but I've been looking for months and still cannot find it.

I use a Wide Ride on one bass and though it's not quite as fine as my old and trustworthy heavy leather & shearling, I am very pleased with it.

http://www.widerides.com/
1) They answered each of my several eMails within 24 hours.
2) They are of a nylon type material that doesn't stretch.
3) Very comfortable.
4) Very strong/sturdy.
5) Stay in place?? Probably. They have two different types of pad cover (slip or grip). I'm not a jumper though, so I can't say for sure.

Though they will customize the ends per whether strap locks are used or not; I don't really know if they do custom work. Can't hurt to look/ask though, eh?

I make mine from duct tape. That's right, duct tape. I'm sure you can probably find a youtube video on it. I've been doing this since 1979. Its the punk rock in me.

I currently use on stage a strap that is white on the outside with black strap button holes and black on the inside with white strap button holes. I added Dunlop strap locks to complete them.

One caution, you need to add some packing tape to areas near the guitar so that the darn duct tape goo doesn't get on the body of your guitar. I never worried about it in the old days because I abused my instruments. Today, not so much.

There are lots of colors of duct tape available. Have fun!

By the way, if that doesn't work, try Dimarzio. They make seat belt straps in wide. I have an older one. If you want, for a couple of bucks to mail it you can have it.
