Custom mic stands

Anybody here ever make and/or use a custom mic stand? I came across a free Chevy small block 400 that had been grenaded and, after tearing it down to the block, I've decided it would be cool to make a mic stand out of the guts. Here's a mock up layed out on the floor:

Anybody else have any custom mic stand pics?

I still have to find a fly wheel for the base but I did figure out how to make it adjustable with a piece of rubber between two pistons and a bolt with a T handle to tighten it up.

It's going to be heavy but I think it'll be cool.

Custom Mic Stands

Hey Sirpug. I started making custom mic stands because I was always breaking the store bought crap. I make them out of all kinds of different things. You can check them out on my website: www.brianvilmer.com

The web-site is seriously out of date and doesn't have everything I've done. But I did upload the latest custom mic stands I made for Murder FM.

If you like my work and want to make your own, drop me a line as there are some valuable lessons I picked up on the way that may be of help in your build.

That crankshaft mic stands cool!

I've converted a few old cymbal boom stands into mic stands, that's one in use for the close tom mics here:
(note the nifty homemade shock mounts built from a section of radiator hose wire-tied to old mic clips)

...

I found a couple old antique lamp stands at a yard sale and attached flex-goosenecks for micing amps. They're in use on the SWR and Marshall cabs here:

I'm almost done with the stand. I'll have to post some pictures this week. I ended up just using two cam shafts since the crankshaft was just to damn heavy.

I do like you're stuff. I love making **** out of other, older ****. I'm an admitted junker myself so I do this stuff all the time.

I'm really impressed with your design for the tops you came up with. Mine doesn't have any real adjustability so I cut it at the right height for my singer. Next time...
