Customising With a Marker Pen

Sign in to disble this ad
I've own a squire P-Bass as my first bass, It's in red and i found out that you can write on it with marker pen and rub it off as it doesn't dry on. Anyway this lead me to thinking about customising so i want to know if anyone knows if can write on it in marker pen and then cover it with some sort of chemical sealer that will make it dry on to it?

Thanks in advance,

Kurt Hogan

Using a can opener to gouge the marks into the bass works a lot better. <sigh>

If you fill in your profile, (Height - color eyes - DOB) it might be easier to understand the motivation for this request though.

Here's what I know: A Sharpie or even a Marks-A-Lot will bleed and run with polyurethane spray over it.

How do I know? Well - I write my name in the pocket of the bodies I build and every time it gets overspray on it from a polyurethane clear coat, it disfigures and runs.

It might be something you like though - heaven only knows why.

I think getting tattoos on your body would be better - since the bass cannot protest being disfigured.

I would recommend contacting a website that offers custom graphics/stickers. You can get something professionally done for you that will be cheap as dirt. You won't have to worry about it ever coming off then.

I know it's an odd request, but I want my first bass to be an ode to my early teenage years, and I feel i would get that by allowing my friends from then to write whatever they want on it in like I said marker pen(any better ideas?). So yeah, that's why i would like something that would seal it in.

I had thought about custom graphics, but decided on my previous idea of my old friends writing on it. So will I have to find another idea?

Your first bass will be an ode to your teenage years if you simply hold onto it. Damaging and disfiguring it won't add to the appeal when you're 10 or 20 years older - you'll just be sorry you did it.

I suggest you take your bass to an auto paint store and ask what they recommend.
