I remember when I was a boy I subscribed to Guitar Player -- there was no "Bass Player" or other bass oriented magazine back then. What GT used to do was insert a 45 floppy record into the mag, along with a transcription, and one day I was introduced to this MFer of a picker by the name of Danny Gatton [God rest his soul].

Here's a random vid:

I was listening to some DG last week - man, he was a smokin' player.
One of the greats , tragic that he is gone.

That is so cool, always thought that DG never got the respect he deserved, truly a tasty player.

The rhythm guitar is too loud, steppin' on much of DG's solo...

One of the guitarists I work with (Scott Covrett) took a few lessons from Danny back in the '80s. Scott is a full-time pro teacher himself, as well as being a killer tele player.

He was well-known among musicians, but he never pursued fame. He liked his home & family, working on cars in his garage... that was his comfort zone.

He used Barden pups and a real shrill tone. You had to tolerate that to hear the awesome riffage! Worth it, IMO.
