David Byrne Live

I saw David Byrne play in Santa Rosa, CA a couple nights ago and was truly impressed. David (former Talking Heads frontman) is touring in support of his latest album with sonic wizard Brian Eno (ex-Roxy Music, many influential solo albums, producer for Devo, Talking Heads, David Bowie, U2, Paul Simon, Coldplay).

Unfortunately Eno isn't on the tour, but David has a crack band (including groovy bassist Paul Frazier) and 3 dancers who are an integral part of the show. A white-haired but very energetic Byrne alternated songs from the new disc with Eno-produced Talking Heads classics (I Zimbra, Once in a Lifetime, Life During Wartime) and cuts from My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and The Catherine Wheel. All in all a funky, cathartic, uplifting experience--check it out!

Sounds like fun. That's some great music... parts of the Catherine Wheel are truly disturbing.

I have a lot of David Byrne, and I found that it's kind of hit and miss for me. I'm a fan of Eno too. Some of it is just kind of mopey. But some of the songs are really great. I like all the Talking Heads stuff much more. Just my opinion. Perhaps it plays out a lot better live.
