"Deaf, Dumb, and Blind"

That phase is used in a lot of songs, and I wondered how it started and why so many people use it. I assume from the rock opera Tommy, by the Who, since that is the earliest song I can think of with that phrase. Here are some songs I found that contain it.

I think its just an old saying that's been used for many years, describing someone who can't hear talk or see.
