I need to pick up a couple gigbags, mainly for local back & forth transporting. What do you guys recommend in the ~ $40 price range?

Roadrunner for new, and surprisingly a lot of stores have used gigbags available, you could probably get a real nice Levy's for that price.

I never really liked gig bags.
I recently got an SKB soft case. It is like a gig bag in size and shape but has a hard shell built in and gives much better protection than a gig bag but is smaller than a hard shell case.

I have this thing about gig bags - If you can feel the bass through the bag, then it's only good for at home storage. My gig bags are well beyond the $40 range, so I would be trying to find a good used one versus a new one at that price. I'm using an UnderCover double bag and a MONO single bag. I would save a few more $$ cha-ching to get a better bag, especially if you plan on carrying it any distance and hanging around other people.

I got a musician's friend bag with a removable backpack for cords, etc and it is in your price range or below. After a while the zipper that holds the backpack broke, which is a bummer (but to be fair, I had it stuffed all the time) The zipper for the bass has held up for years. Other bags can be quite expensive and I feel that this bags offers decent padding/protection for the price. Other bags in this price range don't seem to offer much protection.

I have a Roadrunner bag that has nice padding in it and nice big pockets.
