I've got a couple in mind but I'll start w/ this one. Had to learn it a few years ago and it took me a good while to get it right...

Nirvana - Lounge Act

Just playing bass to a lot of Police songs isn't a very big deal. But playing bass AND singing, that's often a lot harder than just playing.

You obviously don't know what deceptive means.

With ya on that one. Spirits in the Material World is a mofo (never attempted in public, just at home.)

A lot of Grateful Dead songs sound really easy until you try to learn/play them. That little signature (guitar) lick in "Touch of Gray" comes to mind.

For far too many bass players, a simple walking bassline is apparently too difficult to execute well, despite the fact that a well-played walking bassline sounds [deceptively] simple.

That's the one - I have tried for years, but singing and playing that simultaneously is a no go. I don't feel too bad... Sting doesn't even play that line live.

Squib cakes by tower of power. Killed me the first time I tried to play it (our high school jazz band got the original arrangement from Andy, the trumpet player for TOP). Took me an afternoon to get it down.

Scarlet Begonias would be another. Kind of funky, with an underlying backwards Bo Diddley vibe on the rhythm guitar. Not that easy to balance just right. Also, Money Money, which continually shifts between odd and even meters.

Badge by Cream was quirkier to play than it appeared at first.

I'd say most STP songs could fall under this catagory...

After just getting back in, I'm killing myself with Ramble On by Led Zep. Each note just sounds SO good. Making them all sing at speed is hard on me right now. I suppose ability really matters in this discussion.

Whether or not you think the song is easy, I think Lounge Act is not deceptive. When I was first learning it it killed me but I knew what I was getting into. You can plainly hear that it's not your walk in the park three chord root ride.

+1 on the STP. I've had some Soundgarden give me hell too.

Ayreon - Hope/Day 7/Come back to me, whatever you want to call it, for some reason was just difficult for me to hammer. Such a simple, fun, walking bass line that pissed me off.
