Deftones playing The Cure

I don't know if this show has been broadcast in the US, anyway... I'm talking about the MTV icon show about The Cure, hosted by Marilyn Manson..Now, I'm not a Cure fan (brrr, far from it), but The Deftones played a song that was not like the other ones..It was very slow, doomy, and it kicked *ss! Heck, I liked it more then the original Cure..now, is the original the same thing? Or have The Deftones done what no-one else did (read: done something new with the song instead of trying to sound like the Cure)?

Cheers

that song is "if only tonight we could sleep."

and the real song is exactly like the one the deftones played.

that song is off of kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, which, imo, is an inconsistent album.

and lots of cure songs are "slow, doomy, and kick *ss."

I need to see that show! =)

I'm the exact opposite of you - not a big Deftones fan. But I LOVE their cover of Duran Duran's "The Chauffer" way more than the original. They make is sound really dark and sexy.
