| | <-- That guy looks like me, but old. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Arlington TX | | | I took lessons from Chuck Rainey for a few weeks in '89 or '90. So I guess that makes me two degrees from everyone cool in musical history.
I used to Jam with Steve Scales who has recorded with the Talking Heads who used to use Adrian Belew on guitar who is frequently a member of King Crimson who had Tony Levin on bass. So I'm like, four degrees from Tony Levin.
Once with Steve Scales we jammed with Jennifer Batten. She later toured with Michael Jackson (lead guitar on his last several tours) so I'm three degrees from the entire Los Amgeles Sherrifs Departments' Crimes Against Children Unit.
My wifes' coolest and most interesting cousin is an amazing jazz guitarist, Slim Richey. At his house I have gotten to jam with Johnny Gimble, and Erik Hokkannen, So that would make me two degrees from Bob Wills and Bill Frisell, reapectively.
My Grandfather was Cleophus 'Flash' Bagwell, who was a Lightcrust Doughboy for a while, so again I'm two degrees from Bob Wills. But to be wierd, let's try this :
My Grandfather was Cleo Bagwell and I jammed with Johnny Gimble, both of whom played with the Lightcrust Doughboys for W. Lee O'Daniel, who became Governor of Texas, the same office later held by G. W. Bush, who pretends to run the free world at the behest of his Master, Dick Cheney, who made Robert Johnson able to play anything he wanted to on guitar in exchange for his soul. So I'm four degrees from Robert Johnson.

So I'm four degrees from Robert Johnson. | And thus only five degrees away from El Diablo himself (unless you want to count the previously mentioned Michel Jackson connection, which might move you a bit closer). |

The most frustrating thing about the internet is when something is really funny in person, but when you try to capture it in plain text it just kind of sits there.
I think the Cheney joke just died. Let's have a moment of silence for it.

My band also opened for The Queers once, and through them you could probably tie us to just about any punk band out in the past 20 years.
Probably doesn't count, but we played at a venue about two nights after Opeth played there. The difference was we had about five people there, they sold out the place. |

If I had bothered to read more it carefully, I wouldn't have needed to post a redundant observation. I'm afraid I can't say more about the wages of sin and the current administration without crossing over into political discourse. |

not quite six degrees.. more like three or four | OK, I've met Bill Sharp and Dave Koz, so there's only one degree of separation between you and me.

Also with Arnold, so there's one degree between me and President Bush (don't hate me) and two degrees between me and everyone the president has met.
I've also met Bryan Beller, so there's only two degrees between me and people like, say, Jeff Berlin who knew Jaco, so three degrees between me and Jaco. What more is there?

| | | OOOH OOOH OOH I FORGOT ABOUT THIS ONE. "the raves", the band i mentioned before, 3 of the guys are brothers last name of yoakum. their father was the guitarist for the STAR RHYTHM BOYS, an early sun records act. that puts me 2 degrees away from elvis presley, jerry lee lewis, johnny cash, sam phillips, carl perkins, charlie rich and a bunch of other people.
and one that isnt so cool, 2 friends of mine went to high school with mark david chapman. no comment

My mom has a friend who used to have Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) living on her street when he was younger, I guess she yelled at him a couple times or something So that's what, one degree between me and him?
Also, when I took guitar lessons for a short time, the guy teaching was the same guy who had given Jason Newstead bass lessons when he was little as well So I guess that's one degree there as well...
I've never met any famous musicians myself, though.

Jimi Hendrix - Two degrees; I got a few bass lessons from Doc Wayne Kirby, who has played with Jimi before. IIRC on that one.

I was invited to audition for them in 1988. I got to the place where they were having the auditions...and was sent home without even playing, because I didn't have the right 'look'.
That's right people. I'm officially too ugly for Rock and Roll.

So I guess I had it unfortunately correct with 'Too Ugly For Rock and Roll' but that would have been a lot easier to cope with had the audition been for say Bon Jovi or something, or if they had let me play and then said "Next."
The reason I'm still bitter about it nineteen years later was that they never even let me play. They just looked at me and said "Um, no."
