Delta Airlines and Instrument Carry-ons

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm flying tomorrow morning to NC where my old band is getting together for one final jam session before the drummer moves to canadia (thankfully tho the move isnt 100% final ).

Has anyone ever taken their bass as a carry-on with this company? I myself am taking a modified OLP and I'd prefer not to have to disassemble the bass.. what do ya'll think? Checking it in is not an option either as I'd have to first purchase a flight case then add any excess baggage fees they want to charge. I'm seriously considering disassembling the bass. Any comments?

I've had great luck, disassembling a bass for transport.

And my last experience flying Delta was terrible. Customer service was woefully inadequate or nonexistent at numerous key phases.

The two experiences aren't directly related, but there it is.

The only problem i've ever encountered with delta is that the flight attendants can have attitude problems. But i'm just concerned that the bass will not fit the stowage compartment up top. I'd rather not disassemble it if i dont have to... arg i wish somebody knew the answer to my question tho some ppl say they sometimes have coat closets and will stick it in there worst comes to worst.

The boycott by the American Federation of Musicians of Delta was lifted. For a period of time Delta wasn't allowing carry-ons of instruments. Your chances are much better now.

Last time I flew delta with my bass, they made me gate-check it at every stop. The bins were all too short to hold my bass (in a gig-bag). good luck!
