uhhhh... yeah; I started when I was 19.

14 is a pretty good age to start in my opinion; most people I know realy got into music when they were 16/17.

Just practice at least an hour a day. If you don't have a teacher, get one. Most people playing music in high school don't have much discipline when it comes to practicing. If you do, you can catch up in no time.

Become passionate about music. Transcribe your favorite pieces of music. Constantly broaden your listening.

Although it is natural to see a lot of competition in high school, it might be more helpful to become competitive with yourself rather than other people. Music in the real world has nothing to do with competition. Your peers can be great teachers. Share knowledge. Ten years down the line they might be bandmates.

im 21, and didnt get serious until the last year or so. still havent really played with people.

skill is only a function of dedication, not time. although time is a multiplier of dedication, if you take my meaning.

someone with lots of dedication and no time will be a Jaco

someone with no dedication and lots of time will be a Flea (also meth)

someone with both with be a Victor Wooten
