Has anyone ever experimented with a didge drone and playing bass at the same time? I just finished the beezewax mouthpiece on my homemade didgeridoo today. I have to go out of town now so I don't really have time to play with it. Just curious if anyone out there has tried it.

i jammed with my buddy a couple times, which was great fun. it was less me riffing off a drone and more me laying down a loop, and him playing off that and then me playing off him and the loop. (ambient stuff and dubstep-type stuff was really cool.)

the dude i played with has been at it for ten or twelve years, and does some funky voicing/vibrato stuff, but could also follow a bassline, provided is was in the proper key. just make sure your didg can actually produce notes that are in tune.

i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to the didgeridoo, but it made a huge difference in playing and recording going from a couple of home-made ones to a legit didgeridoo (one of the naturally hollowed-out ones). also, playing into a hard surface, like a wooden support beam in a house, worked best.

A few years ago, I played at the CD-release gig of a very talented female singer-songwriter. She wanted to start the show with a lot of unorthodox sounds, like a bagpipe chanter and didgeridoo. I had been making PVC didges for awhile, so I made one in the key of the song (C, if I remember correctly). I played the didge by holding it with my right hand, and played the low C on my 5-string by hammering with my left. It worked well and people liked it. Circular breathing while standing and playing the bass was not easy, though!

I think my face looked this color at one point....
