Rebecca Black - Friday

2.7 MILLION views since February 10, 2011.

Genius or the sad state of music today?

YouTube - Rebecca Black - Friday (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

EDIT to UPDATE: As of this posting, the video has been viewed just about 117 MILLION times and, so far, has peaked at #13 on the iTunes Top 100 Chart. I haven't checked in a while but it's still on the iTunes Chart...

Sad state of music. There isn't a fine line between class and trash anymore nowadays. Record companies get song writers and pretty girls/boys to market their music, i.e. Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black.

A quick snipit of the lyrics...

"Yesterday was Thursday
Today is Friday
We We We so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today
Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes afterwords..."

I hope the next single deals with the complexity of months of the year.

Lyrics don't make sense anymore nowadays and everything has to have auto-tune as well. What happened to real singers?

This sounds like something I uttered out loud to make fun of something on the jukebox at a gig. I wish I had wrote it down and sent it to whoever produces pop now cuz I would be rich.

Oh my god, whenever she says "friday" its like nails on a chalk board! AAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I know people always say that the music industry's always been crap, but come on, look a Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, I may not be a fan of some of these bands, but I think they have all been considered fairly mainstream, but they built their careers on being different. I dare anyone to name a band that came out in the past 10 years that has come close to touching any one of these bands. Double dog dare ya.

Music is moving in a thousand different directions now. The good news is that we don't have to eat what the industry feeds us anymore. The bad news, in a sense, is that a listener has to sift through a lot more music to find what they want.

The, "Fun. Fun. Fun." bothers me. Seems like they could have been a little more imaginitve... The rapper isn't bad though.

Hopefully, listeners will learn how to be a lot more discerning.

There are a bunch. They just don't hit the radio that often--aside from, say, Queens of the Stone Age.

Well, I suppose that in this model, everyone can get exactly the best music in their own reckoning. The trouble is, any given musician will have trouble selling more than a thousand copies of anything absent some Bieber-esque viral anomaly, and very few will be able to make a living at it without some new revenue channel emerging. I'm not sure what is going to happen.
