disAbled bass players

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi - I edit a web site for musicians with disabilities and read an article here about a bass player with several dibilitating disabilities and yet he still plays bass. Any one recall this post.

I'm a paraplegic and wear hearing aids in both ears can't hear the deep lows that I love so I use head phones. I was a pro once in San Francisco 30 years ago and am just a hobbiest with 3 basses now. Anyway, I just joined and wanted to say hello and keep the bottom end down!

I remember Randy Lewis from Atlanta. He played around here with a band called Mose Jones, then later with the "Out a Hand" band. He was missing his left arm just below the elbow.

Oh, also the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble. Not bass players, but a group of disabled musicians:

I remember who you are talking about. I think he was playing drums also.
I forgot his nick name though.
There is Scott Piaza also. He is in a wheel chair also.

Me, Cerebral Palsy. Needless to say, I don't have nearly the chops of Bill Clements or Laser and therefore disability doesn't automatically gift you with Jaco-like ability - otherwise we'd have bassists left and right chopping off limbs or hurling themselves in front of cars hopeing for a spinal injury.

I'm legally blind, but that doesn't affect my playing much. Just can't sight read because of it
