Dissonance In The Low End: How the Electric Bass Divided Jazz

Sign in to disble this ad
The title of this thread is the working title of an article I'm working on for college. I'm working on documenting how the development of the electric bass changed and created new sub-genres of jazz.

I'm looking for stories, anecdotes, experiences that any of you may have with this. Jazz elitism, division between upright and electric bassists, etc etc. Anyone have stories, book recommendations or anything of the like to help me out?

I think you should look into Monk Montgomery since he was first and he played with some vary traditional acts. Steve Swallow as probably the first jazz player to really creating a niche for himself with Gary Burton.

Of course, Fusion is a whole other kettle of fish.

Yup, I've double posted over there. I'm just looking for stories from both sides
