DIY Amp Road Case

Sign in to disble this ad
Not sure where to post this but...

Has anyone built their own road case for an amp. I have a V-4B and would like to protect it when I'm not using it. Road Cases are fairly expensive and for mostly being plywood, metal handles, corners and foam. I feel I could build a good one fairly inexpensively. Any thoughts on the subject?

Thanks

I've never built one, but these guys should have everything you need as far as supplies go.

The site is pretty slow, but everything is on there.

I built a 2ru floating rack case for my amp a few years ago. It lasted a few years then like everything, needs replacing about now. I considered building another one but when I factored in my time etc, I baulked. Then I started finding amp cases for sale that looked to pretty good value for money. In the end I bought one from a company called "Protech" which is much better than what I could have built, for not a lot of money.

If it's not possible to get pre-made cases that fit you amp, then I'd certainly consider DIY.

Also, check at www.audiopile.net. They have a few different sized roadcases, one of em might work for you. Great prices and fast shipping.

related question, how good are the ones on ebay? Everytime i search something with amp or cab in the title i get all these listings for road cases. The look really good, and one I was looking at earlier for a guitar head was only $50? Are these complete garbage?

This makes Ebay sound like a brand of road cases

All jokes aside, have a look at this thread. Apparently these OSP cases are pretty good for the price and do appear on ebay from time to time:-

Are OSP Shockmount Cases Good?

I couldn't afford cases when I was younger. I ended up getting an old wood steamer trunk at an auction for about $10. I lined it with foam, and it protected my amp heads just fine. Given the amount of roadwork we did, my '68 Bassman head looked brand new after a year of hauling.
