DIY stereo tube amp build

Sign in to disble this ad
So A couple months ago I started a thread to get some information and peoples thoughts on building my own amp/preamp. I've done some research and plan to build my bass head if all goes well with this build.

This is an 8 watt(per channel) stereo tube amp. I originally bought it as a kit but i'm straying from the instructions. I'm ditching the PCB and I'm hand wiring it all. Also It just came with a board to mount all the components on but i'm building a case. I would post the schematic but due to copy right restrictions I don't think i can... But here's a link to the kit i'm using. I've read pretty good things about it so far.

s5 Electronics

I have a little experience with soldering and such so I thought this would be a good starting point. Rather then jumping into the 300 watt tube bass amp I'm wanting to build(i'm using the schematic of a 70's Ampeg SVT with the 6550's). My dad has built amplifiers and radios so he's helpin me out. Anyways, thought some people might be interested... here's some pics...

here's the base. before we had anything mounted on it except the little frame that the top mounts to.

Here's the base with the chassis cut and the power transformer mounted

And here's what its going to look like when its done... plus a volume knob on the front and a possible vent on top

Thoughts? suggestions? I'm still looking for speakers any suggestions would be nice. They need to be 8 ohm.

Hi.

Cool project. Consider Yourself extremely lucky for having Your dad to help you out, there might (will) be a serious hobby/part time job in the tube amps in the near future for skilled people.

Other than that, the safety first is the only thought that comes to my mind, but I'm pretty sure that Your dad has that area covered as well .

Subscribed.

Regards
Sam
