I am in the process of creating all my furniture for home studio.

Here is what I got going on now.

My guitar/bass rack that holds 6 instruments.

(Still not complete waiting on the 2 inch thick foam for the bottom to be covered in fabric)

Just wondering what some of your guys thoughts are on it. I am happy with it.

Projects coming soon....

Studio Desk
Equipment Rack
Pedal Board

Looks good, but I would be careful with the foam that you have for the neck rest. Some paints/finishes might react with it and cause it to discolour, or worse.

very cool! I'm just getting started with my music room (part of a whole house renovation)... spending the day busting up walls.

Very nice. I hope the bodies are shaped such that the guitars/basses don’t want to fall out.

I made mine out of PVC pipe… happened to have access to a bunch of it.

I prefer the deep neck supports so the guitars can stand upright instead of leaning.

PS, if anyone’s interested in building one…

3/4" ID Pipe... Elbows x 14... Tees x 16... 2"x 8... 3-1/2"x 7... 6"x 2... 8"x 8... 18-1/2"x 4... 29"x 2... 1" foam insulation

My design is based off this site http://web.mac.com/hartjames/Site/The_Guitar_Rack.html I just could not find myself spending 300 plus on the stand when I can make it for about 50 bucks. The stand causes the guitars to lean towards the neck brace as the bottom footboard is at a slant.

I am forced to build out of wood as my wife would not like the idea of pvc in her house.

I did not stain where the foam was placed on the neck rest. The foam its self is 3/4" thick weather strip I got a local hardware store.

iamlowsound is talking about the foam possibly harming the neck finish of your guitars, not the stain from the stand harming the foam.

he's right. nitro is especially known for refusing to play nicely with foam.

Both racks look nice and have functional designs. I'd probably lean toward the PVC because of light weight and modular design. But... With that said I would not want either guitar rack "in my studio". Maybe I'm hyper critical of ambient sound, but a bunch of guitars sitting in the open where anything going on in the studio such as mic'ed amps, anyone playing drums, acoustic guitars or a singer would cause the strings on the instruments in the racks to vibrate thus potentially finding their way through an open microphone onto the track is not something I'd want to deal with. I guess one could make an argument for a guitar rack in an isolated office space, but in the open studio, not a good idea IME. Of course I think of "studio" as a place were recording takes place, if you usage is more in line with an "art studio" where beautiful items are on display, then the rack is a good idea. My $0.02 & YMMV

Or, vinyl. I used to see lots of Gibson, Martin & Guild acoustic guitars with blistered finish when I worked at a music store. The cheap hippie-looking straps the store sold had a vinyl backing and it caused all kinds of problems.
